What is a Chakra?
The word chakra is used to represent spinning wheels of energy at different locations and positions in our body. Chakras are essentially different energy centres within the body that connect our physical and energetic selves to one another. They also help to connect our body’s energy to the larger energetic fields around you, in which we are all connected to. The balancing of our chakras is said to be crucial when it comes to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
The 7 Chakras-
There are seven major chakras found in the physical body. Five of these align vertically at different points of our spine, while the other two are located within our head. Each of these chakras represents different aspects of our overall health, and are linked to different ailments we may experience. When a chakra becomes out of balance we can experience a physical concern related to that chakra location. Since all chakras are connected, an imbalance or blockage in one chakra can also affect the other chakras surrounding it.
Why do we care about energy?
Humans are energetic beings and inextricably linked to one another. Whether it be through blood, experience, location, relationships, we all have ways of connecting, and one of these ways is through energy.
One of the laws of physics is that no energy is ever gained or lost, it is never created or destroyed, it is simply transformed. This is how our bodies work. For example, when we experience stress, and the stress energy builds, we can experience physical symptoms, such as a headache. The headache is the expression of blocked energy in a certain area of the body. In this case, we can say that either our Crown or our 3rd Eye Chakra is experiencing an imbalance, and the expression is our headache. The headache is used as a way to transform this stressful built up energy being blocked in our heads. So the question becomes, how do we deal with this energy, before we experience a pounding headache?
Balancing Our Chakras-
Each chakra can benefit from different forms of healing. Some examples are color therapy, music therapy, chanting practices, breath work, and using herbs and essential oils to balance our chakras. Each chakra resonates with specific colors, herbs, oils, and tunes and you can focus your chakra healing, by matching therapies with the desired chakra. See below for a list of Chakras and their matching herbs, colors, and oils.
Root: RedSacral: Orange
Solar Plexus: Yellow
Heart: Green or Pink
Throat: Teal/ Turquoise
3rd Eye: Royal Blue
Crown: Purple
This has just been an intro to chakras. By becoming more aware and in tune with your body, and where your ailments are expressed, you can start to draw connections to what chakras may be out of balance.
You may find you are drawn to certain colors or stones. This can also give an indication as to what chakra is asking for extra care and attention. It is important to consider we are always evolving and changing, and that our chakra needs can change as well.
Much Love,
Allison
